Idaho State first started playing football in 1902 when the school was known as the Academy of Idaho. The school grew and the football success continued as the program won its first conference championship in 1952 as a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference. Championships were also won in 1953, 1955, 1957 and 1959. In 1963, ISU joined the Big Sky Conference and won the first-ever Big Sky title.
In 1981, ISU won the Big Sky Conference title and the NCAA D1AA National Championship, going 12-1. The Bengals’ success continued in 2002 when the program won another Big Sky Conference title. Idaho State University Football is alive with possibility and propelled by the desire to seize every opportunity and explore all possibilities that hold the promise of higher levels of excellence.
We understand that ‘Everything Matters’ to be competitive in the Big Sky Conference. The Everything Matters campaign will provide the financial resources needed to achieve specific short-term goals, seize emerging opportunities, and further enhance our football program.
